We regret to announce that Rebecca is not accepting enrollment applications at this time. For more details, please read the following announcement that was sent to her distribution list in February.

As you may have read in my January 1, 2007 class announcement, I depend on filling classes during the enrollment window to ascertain whether I can cover with some level of confidence a year of studio rent and other expenses as students move through my prerequisite based program. Unfortunately, I found insufficient class requests in this year's enrollment window. As a result, after five years of teaching my Academic Figure workshops, I must close my Redwood City studio. All Redwood City classes are cancelled.

With each new year I was gratified to find enrollments increasing, with wait lists to boot! Unfortunately, attendance fluctuations occur, and my school was vulnerable to downturn, even if temporary. There is much I would like to say in this notice today, but my time for writing is limited -- I am teaching a very busy two week workshop right now. I would like you to know that, for me, teaching has always been a response to demand, not a calling. Painting is my highest priority, so closing the school provides me with more time to pursue projects that I was too busy to handle for several years. By teaching the Academic Figure Series, I discovered that my educational theories worked very well -- so well, in fact, I am now developing a DVD training package which will perpetuate much of the same material I offered in my Redwood City Classes.

I can imagine that some of you might want to offer suggestions as to how to keep my school. I would like to assure you that I am at peace with my decision. Some of you might wonder if I am now available to teach private lessons. I started my school because I found, to my frustration, private tutoring by its nature did not support optimal learning. My school provided a far better structure for students seeking foundational skills and knowledge. I therefore will not return to private tutoring.

Sincerely,
Rebecca Alzofon
